Warning Statement: Suns interlock
Subject: Warning Notice – SUNS SS6291 Solenoid Interlock Switch
1. Description of the Potential Issue
The interlock contains an internal solenoid. When the solenoid is energized, it retracts the locking pin and the door becomes unlocked. The interlock also contains a manual release button and an override key which when used also retracts the locking pin. In a former design produced between 8/04/2024 and 11/06/2025, the interlock does not monitor the position or status of this locking pin.
There is a concern that if the locking pin remains stuck in the retracted position, the landing door could stay unlocked. In this condition, the elevator can continue to operate and move away from the landing allowing a person to open the hoistway landing door without the car being present. Thus, this creates a potential fall hazard although no such incidents have been reported.

2. Products Potentially Affected
Affected interlocks were manufactured between 08/04/2024 and 11/06/2025 (date codes 2431 to 2543). You can identify them by the date code printed on the interlock.
The first two digits represent the year and the second two digits represent the week number.
For example, the label shown on the right indicates a date code of 2534 (25 stands for year 2025 and 34 stands for week 34).
3. Actions to Avoid Potential Safety Hazards
Verify Elevator Cab Is Present:
- Always confirm that the elevator car is present at the landing before entering. Post a warning sign to alert users. Example: open the door, stop to verify elevator car is present, step in the elevator car and use the elevator as required.
What to Do After Using Either Manual Unlocking Mechanism:
- Move the car away from the landing where the unlocking mechanism was used.
- After the car moves away from the landing, verify that the landing door is now locked.
- If the door is locked, you may use the elevator as usual.
If the door is not locked when the elevator car is not present:
- Call the elevator back to the floor.
- Shut down the elevator by turning off the elevator power.
- Immediately contact your elevator dealer.
- Do not use the elevator until an authorized elevator technician replaces the interlock.
Children: Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times when using the elevator.
Permanent Actions:
- Contact an authorized elevator provider to schedule replacement of affected interlocks.
